WEBSITEHey, what’s up?
Hey, nothing much. Just waiting for Penny, she’s been ages.
How come?
She’s meeting Jeremy Bull after school and she wants to look perfect.
She already looks pretty good.
Yeah. What’s she doing?
Oh, so she spent all weekend on Instagram and YouTube trying to figure out what the perfect woman looks like. She reckons she’s nailed it.
Penny? Are you nearly done in there?
Coming! Well, how do I look?
Umm… I think I prefer the real you.
Really? Penny? Is that you?
Jeremy?
Penny? I just wanted to look perfect!
I gotta go.
Me too.
The people you just see on movies and TV, they don’t really seem like, humans?
No, it’s like an idealistic version.
It’s very unrealistic.
It’s like an alien’s impersonation of a woman, yeah.
Versus like…
You get so hard on yourself when you’re constantly comparing yourself to other people, and you kind of ignore all your positive qualities and stuff. You can be the perfect size, but you think you’re too fat. To make yourself a two-dimensional person, you miss out on a lot of what it means to be a fully developed, happy human.
It can be really dangerous, especially to your mental health, and I think it’s important to try and take yourself out of that and separate reality from fiction. You have to be thin, but you also have to be curvy, but you have to have perfect skin.
Honestly, it actually does make a much bigger difference when you are yourself. I have family and friends that I really admire, that have gone through so much, that are really strong, beautiful people, that I know myself, which is so cool.
Friends around me. You’re friends with people for a reason, and you see qualities about friends sometimes and you think, “Wow, I wish I had a bit more of that.” Which is much cooler than sort of trying to emulate some like, superhero on a screen or something like that. Kindness, intelligence, honesty. Inner beauty actually matters so much more than outer beauty, because eventually outer beauty is gonna go.
I think working hard’s a really incredible quality, and it would be great if we got to see more of that and see that celebrated as a culture.
Being genuine, that’s it.
Being genuine, yeah.
Being yourself is really important, and when you are yourself, when you’re kind, you’re always trying to make yourself a better person. If you’re sure of yourself, then other people are gonna really want to be around you. It’s going to attract a lot of great people, so…
Being funny.
Not being afraid to be weird.
There you go!
Oh my god, I’m so awkward.
But I love that about myself.
Yeah, role model!
