How to hold a ‘real chat’ with your mates – Part 2

If you’re like me and you find yourself avoiding real chats because of awkward silences, saying the wrong thing, or even making it worse, this video is for you.

Roll the tape.

“Man, I’m just really struggling with that.”
“All right, I got it.”

What you’ve got to do is—

The next step is probably the easiest. You don’t have to give advice unless they ask for it. All you’ve got to do is listen.

So, you might get to that point when your mate stops talking and you have no idea what to say. These are some responses that work for us at The Man Cave:

  • “Thanks for telling me.”
  • “Is there any way I can help?”
  • “Is there anything else you want to tell me about it?”
  • “I don’t really know what to say here, but I’m really glad you told me.”

Now, while you’re in this, your instincts might be telling you to get the hell out of there or to make a joke. But the final step is to stay in it.

You respect your mates—that’s why you’re still watching this video.

Do you know how to finish a conversation really well? Watch our next video. That one should be there.
