WEBSITEI want to tell you a story about a mate of mine. A few years ago, he had a really tough time at school and managed to get himself expelled. He constantly felt alone and wondered if life was really worth living. Negative thoughts and actions became a part of him, which stopped him from being himself and reaching his full potential. He was going downhill, but recently, he’s turned all of that around. He’s managed to not only get back into school but to graduate and succeed at a really high level as well.
And here he is. Did you know that suicide is actually the leading cause of death in Australia’s youth? It’s three to five times higher in Indigenous youth. Don’t you think there’s more to be done to stop this issue before it even becomes an issue? I know I do. That’s exactly the reason why I became involved in the “Are You Okay?” Community Conversation campaign, where we believe something as simple as a meaningful conversation can save a life.
Hey, hey Chris, how are you?
Good, how are you?
You’re really good.
Anyone can do something like the “Are You Okay?” Community Conversation campaign. All you have to do is be passionate and commit yourself towards making the change you want to see happen.
So, to get the train here—the longest train route of my life.
Gong, I know, mate. You’re home now, buddy.
With us, we are trying to prevent suicide by bringing the community together and having meaningful conversations with those who are in need.
Hey James, where have you been?
Yeah, haven’t been around at footy training and stuff like that.
You okay, mate?
You someone to talk to?
Come on, mate. We’re here for your support.
When depression comes into play, people often become isolated and believe that they are alone. This is when a meaningful conversation is needed to allow them to let go of whatever emotions they have trapped inside.
We understand that sometimes people feel alone and depression is real. We get that life is not always easy, but we’re here to tell you that no matter what, suicide is not the option. There is more support out there than you think. Turn to the community, ask for help. You’re never alone.
Are you okay?
