Reach out before you break out – parent relationships
Everything that my family could ever hope for their child not to have—me.
Parents have this kind of image of what you should be, and then there’s the whole thing when you don’t do anything they want you to do, and you become, like, the black sheep of the family.
I was getting really, really unwell. I could barely walk most days. I just didn’t have the strength or the energy to keep up with myself. It’s hard when you don’t really have the, I guess, skills to cope with that sort of thing.
The first step to me telling my parents was admitting that I needed to get help. I couldn’t continue living like that.
I had my mum move overseas permanently because she’s ill, so not having her around to support me anymore and not being able to—sorry…
I think it’s quite difficult to see a loved one struggling or in pain and not having the ability to help them.
I’ve noticed every time I have reached out, I’ve found a lot of help and a lot of support. Don’t be scared to talk to your parents about it, because they will support you through it and be able to help you.
It’s just a tough battle to face on your own.
