Life Online

When I think of online, I think of a certain ideal that is trying to be portrayed, and you don’t need to do that. When I think of social media, I think it can either be harmful or helpful. I want to be sure, creative Korea, and I think online will be such an amazing avenue to share that. Knowing that you’re not alone is really powerful.

When we take negative things from social media, we’re comparing our own behind the scenes to everyone else’s highlights reel, which can be really damaging. I use Snapchat, not as much as I use Instagram. I think I like Instagram because it’s very visual, and you can—there’s literally no limits. You can follow people on the other side of the world.

We definitely have a lot more power now with all the social media, and with one click of a button, that can change our whole life. I’ve heard stories from other people where they’ve posted inappropriate things, and they’ve tried to take it down, but other people have already saved it. Yeah, and you can’t take it back.

I think a life online can come with pros and cons.

My name is Sophie, and I’m from Sydney. I sort of discovered this community, and I’ve just found a lot of people who are going through similar things and who are really supportive. It’s sort of nice not knowing them in real life because it just makes it a lot easier to be vulnerable.

Hi, I’m Jack, and I’m from Burke in country New South Wales. I’m addicted to my phone. I’ve got two Instagram accounts. I have a private account where, whatever I look my absolute worst, I just post it on there, and that’s my account to feel free. The other account is me. I want to try and get the most amazing photo, whatever location I’m in, then upload it at specific times. I know that there are people who are gonna come on and like it.

It’s not a bad thing to paint a picture of what you want to be, but sometimes it can be detrimental. It’s an unrealistic picture. There’s that massive pressure to look a certain way, to have a certain body, to be tan, to be pretty. Essentially, I just think that people should stop wasting their time trying to look a certain way and just embrace what they look like.
