I do know what I do know

I do know what I do know

(To the tune of Mean by Taylor Swift)

Words substituted by Sapphire

I’m not your school project

Like paper cutouts of words used against me

I have stood back on my feet again

Fighting for myself forever

I’m not your dictionary or object

Calling you out when I’m wounded

I’m better than your gender norms

Well, you can’t take me down

With just one single vote

And I do know what I do know

Today I am living in my body called me

And all I’m ever gonna be is me

Today I am stronger than your sharpest weaponry

And so it’s just your loss that you can’t see

That’s all I’ll ever be is me

I’m not gonna conform

To your strict guidelines and your patriarchal order

I’m not your little girl oh no

So stop treating me like a check box

I’ve walked the block as well

And my eyes are open, now at last I can see it

I’m not your Barbie or your Ken

I bet you think you can make

All this your cishet world

But all of that it stops right now

‘Cause I am here and I am queer

And you’re thinking, it’s so last year

Today I am living in my body called me

And all I’m ever gonna be is me

Today I am stronger than your sharpest weaponry

And so it’s just your loss that you can’t see

That’s all I’ll ever be is me

I can see years from now at a protest

And you just love to hate

With that same queerphobic sign

But that’s something we don’t take

Outdated and reactive, oh it’s such a drag

That you sit and scream about how I’m a fag

But all I am is me

All I am is me

And a fighter, and razorsharp, and so courageous

‘Tis me

‘Tis me

‘Tis me

‘Tis me

‘Cause today I am living in my body called me

And all I’m ever gonna be is me, yeah

Today I am living in my body called me

All I’m ever gonna be is me

(All I’ll ever be is me)

Today I am stronger than your sharpest weaponry

(All I’ll ever be is me)

Today I am living in my body called me

(All I’ll ever be is me)

And so it’s just your loss that you can’t see

That all I’ll ever be is me
