Hold on

30th April, 2017   |    By Jaymi   |    2 min read

My message goes out to all of the young people going through really tough times and my message is simple: hold on as it can and will get better.

I once thought it was easier just to give up on life and I am so glad I didn’t. Here’s a bit more about me.

In high school I came out the closet as being gay and in return I was bullied by students and staff alike, I was barred from my girlfriend based on rumours and I was eventually suspended and in the end expelled as I didn’t turn up to very many classes due to the constant taunts.

I also suffered from major depression and used to deal with the emotions that felt unbearable by self-harming. I went through a downward spiral for many, many years dealing with my emotions in this way. I felt alone and I felt worthless. I didn’t care what happened to me.

But other people did and still do. Eventually with a lot of persistence and a lot of tough times I pulled through.

And you can too. No matter how hard things seem they can always get better.

There will always be times that are far from easy but you are strong enough to fight them.

I am now 25 and my life is far from perfect but I’m happy to be alive and I’m happy to be me.

I just hope that other young people going through the hardest times of their lives can read this and find even a glimmer of hope and to realise that there is light at the end of the tunnel and life is worth giving another chance to.

Hold on.. it’s all worth it.
