WEBSITEIf I find myself alone, panicking, I get my keys, I get my wallet, and I just walk out of my house. I just start taking pictures to look after myself emotionally.
The main thing that I do is talk to people I love. Laughter and face masks are on my weekly to-do list. Coming home and maybe reading a book or just taking some time out for myself, listening to a podcast, or relaxing in bed watching a movie.
I think just taking that time out to relax and switch your brain off is really important.
The most important thing I would say is to just stay grounded—standing outside with no shoes on and connecting with nature. My mum used to always tell me to do it, and I think I laughed at her and was like, “That’s not going to do anything.”
But, you know, just go outside and walk along the grass for a little bit. It calms you. That definitely helps.
Instead of just trying to distract myself with alcohol, parties, or whatever, I decided that it was time for me to talk to someone about it and seek some help.
It’s not like it’s a quick fix either. You have to be honest with yourself and the person you’re sitting down with.
Getting that first perspective from someone—it’s not easy, but it has so much more benefits than negatives in the long run.
Speaking to someone about your problems can be the first steps to a solution.
