Josh’s story – noticing a change

This is a story about Josh. When he was 16 years, 3 months, 2 days, and 14 hours old, he noticed a change—something was off. He had lost interest in his physical activities, shunned his social commitments, and worst of all, he had even lost his appetite. The thought of talking to his parents made him rather uncomfortable, and confiding in his friends seemed outright terrifying. A simple text message from a friend changed everything.

Josh was aware of headspace but unsure of how they could help. As always, he started with his trusted friend, Google. A website and a Facebook page later, he decided to give them a call. You can get 10 sessions for free with a mental health professional. On top of that, they also provide free drug and alcohol counselling, general and sexual health information, job and study advice, so why not?

Josh took a trip down to headspace Bundy. At first, he was understandably nervous, but when he was met by friendly staff who always remembered him by name and were happy to help with any questions he had, he lay his worries to rest. A quick iPad survey each visit was like a gateway to all the assistance he needed.

After five sessions, he felt like he could manage well enough on his own, but he knew he always had the option to go back if he felt like he needed to. Eventually, he did, to talk with the education and employment support worker, who helped make his resume shine. He even attended a few free workshops and clubs from time to time, where he learned new skills and met new friends.

Nowadays, Josh is a mega star. He’s rich and famous and never has a care in the world and loves rock climbing. He’s married to a supermodel. Okay, so that’s not entirely true. However, Josh is 18 and doing great. Of course, every now and then, life is still tough, but headspace gave him the tools to navigate the sticky areas of life.

How do I know all this? Well, I’m Josh. Josh Jen’s, ready.
