If people knew me they would think I was very hypocritical to debate about tattoos, I have a few but I have friends who have a lot more, we love our ink and do not regret any of them just like all the websites and facebook sites say, or do we?

Two of my friends who have quite a few tattoos have both told me they have regretted at least one tattoo on their body, reasons being they were to young and just got whatever for the sake of having a trendy tattoo or to getting a backyard tattoos where an error was made (ouch).

As for me, well maybe I have a tattoo I sort of regret, not the tattoo itself but location on my body but it is stuck on my body forever so I will have to learn to deal with it.

I truly do love ink and think it is just beautiful art, I love looking at other peoples tattoos but this is where I need to remember I am not everyone and not everyone likes tattoos, especially when it comes to visible tattoos and jobs. Now I know a lot of people will say an employer cannot hire you because of visible its classed as discrimination blah blah blah, the truth is they can give you 1000 different reasons which have nothing to do with your tattoos.

So if you are thinking of getting a tattoo, here are my handy tips on the tattoo world:

• Is this something you really want? Is the tattoo something you are not going to regret in 5 years’ time?
• LOCATION – I cannot stress this enough, yes we are growing into a less discriminating world but think about it this way, our bosses are probably going to be the oldies that look at ink people as they are trouble makers. Keep this in mind if you are thinking about getting a swear word tattooed on your face, is this going to affect your future, because having a tattooed removed is extremely painful and very expensive.
• Time – just because you hit 18 or you have your parents/guardians permission at a younger age of 18, really consider what you want and maybe think about it for a while, say a month, rushing into these lifelong commitments when you are unsure can be a big mistake.
• Check out the tattoo shop before booking in for ink, do some research on the net to get a understanding on what you should be looking for to check their hygiene procedure (which if the artists are not happy to explain and show you then just walk away) and equipment, shop around for pricing, yes they are expensive but some artists do try and rip off people at times.
• DO NOT get a backyard job, as much money you think you are saving, Blood-Borne Viruses are very serious and could cost you a lot more than a saving of $50.00, not to mention infections which may be passed on through uncleaned needles and then your tattoo is ruined anyways.

If you decide to get a tattoo or not, remember some people love them, some people hate them but do not judge. Only you have to put up with your opinion on your tattoos, so to get inked or not, is something only you can decide.
