Pets in Crisis Care Program

Hi, I’m Rachel Moore, RSPCA Ambassador. Today, I’m in Brisbane at the Animal Care Campus, learning more about the RSPCA Queensland Pets in Crisis program.

The program gives pet owners an option for their animals when they are at risk of domestic violence. The RSPCA has been working with DV Connect since 2005, providing a safe haven for animals.

The Pets in Crisis program operates in 13 locations throughout the state. We provide 28 days of care—sometimes longer—for those animals whose owners are escaping domestic violence.

Temporary boarding in the program is affordable for peace of mind. We also offer discounted microchipping, vaccinations, and free desexing for pets in the program. The program helps ensure that people affected by domestic violence don’t need to stay in a volatile relationship for the sake of their pets.

Once the immediate upheaval of escaping domestic violence has passed, Pets in Crisis aims to reunite owners with their pets.

Last year, the RSPCA’s Pets in Crisis program provided over 4,000 days of care for pets in need, costing nearly $150,000 each year to run. It’s thanks to generous community donations that the RSPCA can continue to offer the Pets in Crisis program.

If you can help sponsor the program, please contact RSPCA Queensland. If you need assistance from the RSPCA’s Pets in Crisis program, please call DV Connect.
