How headspace work and study support can make a difference
So, before I signed up for the work and study program, I had been practically unemployed for about two years. You get really low morale when you constantly get rejected from stuff and constantly get ghosted by employers. So, having someone to help me kind of boosted that a lot, and then when he helped me get a job, that was also a big boost in the role of job hunting.
So, my flexible double degree took me four and a half years, and I took a six-month break after I graduated from that. I knew that I was completely burnt out from it, and it was at the expense of my personal life. I knew going into my honours, when I was going to do more study, that I wanted to be able to prioritise my, you know, my friendships and my social relationships. I took a year off just to reevaluate what I wanted, what I actually wanted, and this is where I did the work and study program just to get myself back on track. I was a bit despondent and a little bit unsure of what I really wanted out of life, and I figured having someone who isn’t family or who doesn’t know me would allow for a more objective third-party perspective to come in and have a look at it and then get myself back on track.
This program has really just said, “Well, you know what? I can be more hopeful for my future,” and just changed my whole outlook on life. What I’m most proud of during my time with the work and study supports is probably the fact that I’ve finally gotten the job. I mean, I have spent years hunting for jobs. My co-workers and my managers are really nice. It’s accessible. It’s, yeah, finally finding a job after all those years, and one that I’m happy at.
My specialist has really helped me get to the places that I want to be. I’ve done my resume, I’ve done my scholarship applications, I’ve done my grad applications. I know how to write them now. The work and study program has really given me peace of mind in the way that I’m going about doing things. It’s given me structures that I can put in place that I can, you know, fall back on and rely on. Both programs allowed me to develop purpose. When you don’t have purpose, as I said, you become very lost, you’re unsure, and you end up doing something you don’t want to do.
Having a third person come in and really help you kind of figure that out for yourself just has a ripple effect. You just become happier, your mental health goes through the roof, you’re more confident, you take more risks, and your approach to life just changes. Once you’re sure of what you’re doing, for me, I just feel more driven than I have ever been because of these programs.
