What to expect & getting confident in the job hunt

I just want to scream at the rooftops for people to do it because it was such a great stepping stone for me in my work and study career.

Hi, I’m Ash.
Hi, I’m Re.
Join us for a chat on Headspace Work and Study programs.

So what work and study support did you receive?
I went with the Work and Study Support Center Program. I actually got referred by my clinician, so that was a pretty easy path to get into the program. It’s kind of a feature of it that it’s integrated with mental health support.

So what was the program like?
The way that I would describe it is casual yet productive. I think a big part of the reason for that is because it’s voluntary, so you can choose to engage or disengage with the program. We did what was best for me and were very flexible around what support and what we discussed in the sessions.

A lot of people actually write their resumes and cover letters with the specialists during the sessions. I personally brought my own work—like writing resumés and cover letters—from home and brought it to the sessions to discuss and come up with a plan. I really loved having someone specific to talk to about work and study goals, and obviously working towards achieving them.

So where did you meet your work and study specialist?
I met them at my local Headspace Center. We met every two weeks, and the sessions went for around an hour, but that was very flexible. One session, I actually saw them after three days because I was dropping off resumes at vet clinics near me. I was doing a Certificate II in Animal Studies.

That’s actually a really good feature of the program—the flexibility of where you meet and the assistance you receive.

How did you change as a person through the program?
I came out of it more confident. I became a lot more confident in the process of getting a job and pursuing study. I can now use that knowledge to further my study and work goals.

I was also a lot more comfortable being involved in the center—not just in the Work and Study Support Program but also in therapy.

Who would benefit from the program?
Anyone that’s eligible, honestly, and obviously anyone seeking work and study support. I just want to scream at the rooftops for people to do it because it was such a great stepping stone for me in my work and study career.

What would you say to someone sitting on the fence about accessing the program?
I would say just do it. It can only help you upskill in work and study environments. It’s honestly super beneficial. Just give it a go and see if it works for you.
