Get to Know – Alcohol
Alcohol is a colourless, fermented, or brewed liquid made from ethanol and flavoured water. It’s a depressant, which means it slows down the messages travelling between your brain and your body.
Some other names you may know it by are booze, grog, piss, liquor, plonk, and bevies—the list goes on.
Alcohol can affect everybody differently, depending on a whole range of factors such as your age, weight, and even gender. You may experience trouble concentrating, slower reflexes, increased confidence, happiness, or depression, depending on your mindset going into it.
If you are going to drink alcohol, I would recommend trying to eat 30 minutes beforehand. Alternate every second drink with water or a soft drink, and stay hydrated before and after you drink. Never leave your drink unattended, and be aware of how alcohol affects your mood.
Although high levels of binge drinking have been almost normalized in Australia, it’s not healthy or normal to drink until you black out or vomit.
