WEBSITEMy name is Ashna Devakithapa. I care for my mum, dad, and my grandma.
I came to Australia in 2013 with my family as a refugee. Being from a multicultural background, I did not have much idea about the Australian community. I was really hopeless; I wasn’t sure what to do and what not to do.
Looking after them, giving them medication, cooking for them, taking them to the hospitals and things—that was a really hard thing to do.
I met Julie, Sharon, and Shimon from Carer Gateway, and then it was really easy afterwards.
In 2020, my dad and I decided to go to Nepal, but there was a problem—there was no one to look after my mom and grandma. Carer Gateway was really helpful. They provided respite for my mom and grandma.
We get respite Monday to Saturday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., which was really, really, really helpful.
Carer Gateway is just amazing.
