Bush Fire Fact – What to wear in a bush fire
Bushfire fact: The radiant heat from a bushfire can burn bare skin from a hundred meters. Covering up could save your life. Long sleeves and pants are best to cover up any skin. Wear natural fibers like wool or cotton. Make sure you’re wearing sturdy boots. Cover your head as well. A wide-brimmed hat can stop embers falling down your back. Wear goggles to protect your eyes, gloves for your hands, and use a mask to cover your mouth. An old tea towel or cotton shirt should do the trick.
Here’s a tip: Don’t wear synthetic materials like boardshorts or swimmers. They can melt in a fire and stick to your body. Getting ready for a bushfire is easier than you think. For more simple tips, visit www.myfireplan.com.au.
