Today we’re talking about penis hygiene, with our top five tips.

Tip one: create a shower routine.
Wash your penis daily with warm water and soap-free products. If you do use soap, choose a mild, unscented option. If you have a foreskin, gently pull it back and cleanse underneath while you’re in the bath or shower. While you’re there, make sure you also wash surrounding areas that are prone to sweat, like the groin and butt.

Tip two: dry properly.
After washing, pat your genitals dry or use a hair dryer on a cool setting. Make sure your penis is completely dry, especially under the foreskin. This helps prevent moisture-related issues like smegma.

Tip three: don’t overdo the products.
Avoid perfumed products such as baby wipes, shampoos, scented soaps, and talcum powder. Stick to unscented products to reduce irritation.

Tip four: remember there’s no success in excess.
Daily cleansing is more than enough. Avoid excessive washing, vigorous drying, or over-shaving. Pubic hair has an important role — it reduces friction and helps prevent infection.

Tip five: when you pee, pull the foreskin back.
If you have a foreskin, pull it all the way back when you urinate. This helps prevent odour and infections.

Bonus tip: get to know your genitals.
Knowing what’s normal for you makes it easier to notice changes. If you detect anything unusual or concerning, see a medical professional for advice.
